Tech Lead – Reporting & Filing Location: US – Remote Engagement: Full-time. Direct Hire with the client About the Opportunity Peoplepath is partnering with a product-led software company in the sales tax and compliance space to support the growth of their engineering organization. Our client builds technology that simplifies the complexities of sales tax calculation, reporting, and filing for online businesses across multiple jurisdictions. As part of this growth, we are seeking an experienced Tech Lead to join the Reporting and Filing Product team. This role blends technical leadership, people management, and hands-on engineering, with a strong focus on delivering high-quality products at scale. Role Overview The Tech Lead will be responsible for leading a team of engineers while serving as a technical partner to Product, internal stakeholders, and occasionally customers. This individual will play a key role in roadmap planning, execution, and ensuring reliable, on-time delivery of reporting and filing solutions.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Team Management Own and continuously improve engineering team processes and workflows Ensure engineers have clear, actionable priorities and deliverables Conduct regular 1:1s, providing mentorship and supporting career development Participate in hiring, onboarding, and team growth initiatives Foster a culture of trust, ownership, consistency, and transparency Help unblock engineers on technical or product-related challenges Partner closely with Product to define roadmap priorities and ensure technical alignment Collaborate with leaders across engineering, product, and operations Software Development Document technical requirements and proposed solutions clearly for the team Collaborate with cross-functional partners to translate customer needs into scalable software solutions Build and maintain systems using technologies such as Go, CosmosDB, Postgres, Azure Functions, Event Grid, and Event Hub Support and modernize legacy systems built in .NET/C# and SQL Server Actively identify and reduce technical debt as part of feature development Data Engineering Design and maintain complex data pipelines supporting business-critical systems (e.g., tax filing, rate ingestion, order ingestion) Partner with Product to understand customer reporting and data needs Establish and promote clean, consistent data standards across the organization Work extensively with Databricks on Azure, leveraging tools such as Delta Tables, Lakeflow Declarative Pipelines, Workflows, and Unity Catalog Quality & Best Practices Promote best practices for code quality, testing, and documentation Participate in and lead code reviews to maintain high engineering standards Technical Qualifications Strong proficiency in Go and SQL Experience with Python, PySpark, Pandas, or similar data tools Familiarity with Databricks Experience with NoSQL document-based databases Proficiency with Git and GitHub Experience building or maintaining CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions or similar) Experience with Azure or other cloud platforms is a plus Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools (Terraform, Bicep, etc.) is a plus Additional Qualifications Strong problem-solving and analytical skills Proactive and ownership-driven approach to technical challenges Excellent written and verbal communication skills Humble, open-minded, and collaborative leadership style Ability to balance independent work with team leadership Adaptable and comfortable navigating change Eager to learn and stay current with emerging technologies Why This Opportunity Leadership role within a growing engineering organization Exposure to a modern, data-driven product environment Competitive compensation and benefits Fully remote, flexible work arrangement 401(k) program Peoplepath and our client are committed to building inclusive, diverse teams.
