Backend Engineer, Payments

Patreon is a media and community platform where over 300,000 creators give their biggest fans access to exclusive work and experiences. We offer creators a variety of ways to engage with their communities and build a lasting business including: paid memberships, free memberships, community chats, live experiences, and selling to fans directly with one-time purchases.

We're continuing to invest heavily in building the best creator platform with the best team in the creator economy and are looking for a Backend Engineer to join our Payments team to support our mission.

This role is based in San Francisco and open to those who are able to be in-office 2 days per week on a hybrid work model.

About the Team

Payments is at the core of Patreon as a business, directly responsible for getting our creators paid billions of dollars a year. Our work enables creators to seamlessly grow and monetize their global audience over a multitude of channels. The team's work covers interesting product and technical challenges with both breadth and depth.

About the Role

• You'll help scale and expand capabilities of Patreon's payment platform that helps creators get paid effectively and on time, every time.

• Contribute to the development and design of the Payments platform and tools to support the payment processing at Patreon.

• Collaborate with product managers, designers, and other engineers to build new functionality, while maintaining a delightful user experience, motivated by passion for our shared mission.

About You

• 3+ years of experience in software development

• Strong experience with Python or a similar language and SQL

• Solid communication skills with cross-functional team members and mentoring junior engineers

• A track record of building systems with attention to detail, high reliability, and high throughput

• Experience building products in the payments domain is a plus, but not a strict requirement for this role

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a reputed company field, or the equivalent
