Role Overview – Principal Engineer, Data Analytics & Data Science (Remote)

We are seeking a visionary Principal Engineer to own the strategic direction, architecture, and delivery of arenaflex’s data analytics and data science platform. This senior, remote‑first role will drive the end‑to‑end data pipeline, from ingestion through advanced analytics, enabling business stakeholders to make data‑driven decisions that shape the future of retail. The position also encompasses leadership of a high‑performing team focused on data entry processes and customer support analytics, ensuring operational excellence and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

• Strategic Leadership: Define and communicate the long‑term vision for data analytics and data science, aligning with arenaflex’s corporate objectives and growth strategy.
• Team Mentorship: Lead, coach, and grow a multidisciplinary team of data engineers, analysts, and scientists, fostering a culture of continuous learning and innovation.
• Architecture & Design: Design modular, secure, and highly scalable data architectures that support both batch and real‑time processing across cloud platforms.
• Data Platform Development: Build and maintain robust data pipelines using Azure Data Lake Storage (ADLS), Azure Synapse (formerly Azure SQL DW), Azure Databricks, Delta Lake, and related technologies.
• Analytics Enablement: Partner with business analysts, product owners, and customer support teams to translate business needs into analytical solutions, dashboards, and predictive models.
• Quality & Governance: Establish data quality standards, validation processes, and governance frameworks to ensure data integrity, security, and compliance.
• Tool Selection & Implementation: Evaluate, recommend, and implement analytics and visualization tools (Power BI, Tableau, Looker) that best meet business requirements.
• Performance Optimization: Continuously monitor and improve the performance, reliability, and cost‑efficiency of data workloads.
• Collaboration: Work closely with cross‑functional teams—including data scientists, software engineers, platform engineers, and IT operations—to deliver integrated solutions.
• Thought Leadership: Stay ahead of emerging trends in data engineering, machine learning, and cloud technologies, and champion best practices across the organization.
• Reporting & Insight Delivery: Produce executive‑level reports and actionable insights that drive strategic decisions in merchandising, supply chain, and customer experience.

Essential Qualifications

• Minimum 15 years of hands‑on experience in data analytics, data engineering, or related fields.
• At least 5 years in a senior or lead role, demonstrating the ability to guide large, distributed teams.
• Extensive experience with cloud data platforms (Azure, AWS, Google Cloud) and services such as ADLS, Azure Databricks, Azure Synapse, Snowflake, or similar.
• Deep expertise in SQL, data modeling, and building high‑performance data warehouses and lakehouse architectures.
• Proficiency in programming languages and analytics tools: Python, R, Power BI, Tableau, DBT, and Spark.
• Strong background in machine learning pipelines, statistical modeling, and data visualization.
• Demonstrated ability to design and implement data quality, governance, and security frameworks.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate complex technical concepts into business‑friendly language.
• Proven track record of delivering large‑scale data solutions that support high‑volume, real‑time analytics.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, or a related discipline.
• Industry certifications such as Azure Data Engineer Associate, Google Professional Data Engineer, or AWS Certified Big Data – Specialty.
• Experience in the retail, e‑commerce, or supply‑chain sectors, particularly with customer support analytics.
• Familiarity with modern data orchestration tools (Airflow, Azure Data Factory, Prefect) and CI/CD pipelines for data workloads.
