This team combines deep strategic thinking with a practical understanding of how to drive execution across a global organization. If you are passionate about turning ambiguity into insight, arenaflex is the place where your work will shape decisions that affect hundreds of millions of users worldwide.

The Opportunity

arenaflex is hiring a Business Data Scientist – Impact Measurement & Causal Inference Analytics to join our Impact Measurement team. This is a remote, full-time role based in Maine, USA, offering a competitive hourly rate of $30/hour, along with a comprehensive benefits package, equity participation, and performance bonuses. The role is ideal for a curious, rigorous, and impact-oriented data scientist who wants to help senior decision-makers become truly data-driven.

As a Business Data Scientist at arenaflex, you will serve as a trusted advisor to product, business, and operational leaders. You will translate vague, high-level questions into well-defined analytical problems, design studies that produce defensible answers, and communicate findings to non-technical audiences with clarity, humility, and transparency about uncertainty. Your work will directly influence how the organization invests in creators, markets products, evaluates partnerships, and measures the true impact of its initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and lead formal and informal research studies with the clear goal of answering high-impact business questions, including questions related to creator growth, monetization, audience behavior, and product adoption.
  • Translate ambiguous business questions into structured analytical problems, identifying the right data sources, methods, and success metrics for each inquiry.
  • Pull, clean, and analyze large datasets using SQL and statistical programming tools such as R, SAS, Stata, or MATLAB to uncover meaningful patterns and trends.
  • Apply advanced causal inference techniques — including Bayesian hierarchical models, Bayesian Additive Regression Trees (BART), Bayesian Causal Forest (BCF), Gaussian Processes, and Synthetic Control methods — to measure the true impact of business initiatives.
  • Design and analyze randomized controlled trials (RCTs), as well as quasi-experimental studies using observational data, to support evidence-based decision-making.
  • Build statistical models including linear models, multivariate analyses, stochastic models, and sampling techniques to support ongoing measurement and forecasting.
  • Present and communicate actionable insights and recommendations to executives, business leaders, and cross-functional partners, tailoring the message to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Serve as a peer reviewer and thought partner for causal research designed by other teams, helping to raise the bar for analytical rigor across the organization.
  • Stay current with the causal inference literature and proactively develop new methodologies, frameworks, and tools when existing approaches are insufficient.
  • Build and maintain analytical infrastructure including data pipelines, dashboards, and reusable research components that empower the broader organization to make faster, smarter decisions.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Applied Statistics, Data Science, Machine Learning, Economics, or a related quantitative field — or equivalent practical experience.
  • Demonstrated experience articulating business and product questions and translating them into data-driven analytical work.
  • Proficiency in SQL for querying and manipulating large datasets.
  • Experience with at least one statistical programming language such as R, SAS, Stata, or MATLAB.
  • Prior internship or work experience in data analysis, with a portfolio of projects that demonstrate end-to-end analytical thinking.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex analyses to non-technical stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience with Bayesian hierarchical models, BART, BCF, Gaussian Processes, and Synthetic Control methods.
  • Experience designing and analyzing randomized controlled trials in a business or product context.
  • Experience designing and analyzing causal research using observational data, including techniques such as difference-in-differences, propensity score matching, instrumental variables, and regression discontinuity.
  • Deep familiarity with statistical data analysis, including linear and nonlinear models, multivariate analysis, stochastic models, and sampling techniques.
  • Experience working with large-scale digital media, advertising, creator economy, or consumer product data.
  • A track record of publishing or presenting research internally or externally is a plus.
  • Strong sense of intellectual curiosity, ownership, and a bias toward action.

Skills and Competencies for Success

  • Analytical Rigor: You question assumptions, validate methods, and never stop until the data tells a defensible story.
  • Business Acumen: You understand how a media and technology business operates — from creator monetization to audience engagement — and you align your analyses with strategic priorities.
  • Statistical Depth: You are comfortable moving between classical frequentist methods and modern Bayesian approaches, and you know when each is appropriate.
  • Storytelling: You can craft a clear, compelling narrative from raw data, and you use visualization and structured communication to make insights stick.
  • Collaboration: You thrive in cross-functional settings, partnering with product managers, engineers, designers, marketers, and senior leaders.
  • Independence: You are self-directed, manage your own projects end to end, and proactively identify the questions that matter most.
  • Curiosity: You actively follow the latest research in causal inference, machine learning, and econometrics, and you bring fresh ideas back to the team.

Compensation and Benefits

The US base hourly range for this full-time remote role is $30/hour, with a comprehensive benefits package that includes performance-based bonus, equity grants, and access to a wide range of wellness, learning, and family-support programs. At arenaflex, compensation is determined by role, level, and location, and is also influenced by relevant skills, experience, and education. Your recruiter will share the specific details of your offer during the hiring process. Please note that the hourly rate listed reflects base compensation and does not include bonus, equity, or benefits.
