About the Role
We're hiring a Senior Backend Engineer to join our core engineering team. You'll be a key contributor to both user-facing product launches as well as platform enhancements and stability -- working directly on the systems that power Tofu's fraud detection, deepfake analysis, and identity verification infrastructure.
What You'll Do
Develop core product features to support Tofu's fraud detection pipelines, data processing, and retrieval at scale. Design and implement backend APIs to facilitate data interactions between Tofu's detection models, scoring systems, and product surfaces. Build and maintain data pipelines for efficient processing, analytics, and real-time fraud signal ingestion. Collaborate with frontend engineers (React/JavaScript) to present fraud and identity data in a clear, actionable format for enterprise recruiting teams. What You'll Bring Ability to own and manage concurrent initiatives, demonstrating effective judgment in prioritization and time management. Driven, self-managed, capable of conceiving and implementing solutions on your own and with a team. A strong desire to continuously improve and learn new technologies in a fast-paced environment. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, effective communication, attention to detail, and high-quality work. Strong technical documentation ability to support the development process. Effective communication and collaboration with designers, developers, and product managers. Ability and interest in mentoring junior and mid-level engineers to foster their growth and development. Required Experience Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field. 7+ years of professional software engineering experience using modern object-oriented or functional languages -- we primarily work in Python and JavaScript. Experience building applications on cloud computing platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) using container technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes. Expert proficiency in SQL. Preferred Experience Experience with Elasticsearch or similar search and analytics engines. Experience with various database architectures including relational (PostgreSQL) and others. Experience managing and maintaining production infrastructure. Experience building platform capabilities for internal teams. Experience in fraud detection, identity verification, or security-adjacent domains.
