Position Overview

arenaflex is seeking talented Distributed Systems Engineers to join our Data Platform team as we work toward our ambitious goal of reaching 500 million members worldwide. This is a unique opportunity to shape the infrastructure that powers one of the world's most entertainment platforms. This full-time position offers a competitive hourly rate of $28 with standard 8-hour workdays. As an L4-level position, you'll be working on critical systems that handle massive amounts of data while ensuring reliability, scalability, and performance across our global infrastructure.

Our Data Systems Teams

Database Access Platform

The Database Access Platform team builds and operates a flexible query gateway that facilitates data reflections to operate at sub-millisecond latencies while allowing arenaflex microservices to more easily store, consume, and manage their data. This team holds significant responsibility in enabling arenaflex microservices to meet their constantly evolving and growing data needs.

Data Platform Foundation

The Data Platform Foundation team serves as the platform for our internal data platforms. Our shared infrastructure and tooling enable arenaflex to rapidly innovate in delivering cutting-edge data and analytics systems to the rest of the organization without building custom platforms for each new system. To achieve this, we create high-impact infrastructure, control, and deployment systems that are optimized for running data systems at arenaflex scale. Many of our tools and systems are written in Python, making this an excellent team for those who enjoy working with multiple programming languages.

Big Data Compute

This team is responsible for providing the cloud-native platform for distributed data processing at arenaflex. They are critical to batch data processing in Data Platform, offering support for Spark to ETL data into the Petabyte-scale data warehouse and access that data using Spark and Voila/TrinoDB. The team also provides sub-second latency for specific classes of queries using Druid. We're seeking exceptional talent with experience in Spark, Presto/Trino, Druid, Iceberg, and distributed database systems overall. Positions on this team involve solving fascinating and challenging problems of working with data at scale, building features and performance improvements, and collaborating closely with open-source communities to shape the projects and contribute back.

Big Data Orchestration

This team offers the platform for designing, orchestrating, and executing big data jobs and workflows in a self-serve manner. These platforms include critical services that run all ETL and ML workloads on Big Data Systems at arenaflex. These fully distributed systems are continuously evolving for arenaflex scale with cutting-edge technology. We're moving toward event-driven and intelligent orchestration that would require minimal user input/intervention.

About You

We're looking for candidates with:

• 2+ years of experience building large-scale distributed systems features or applications
• Expertise in the design and development of RESTful web services
• Experience building and operating scalable, fault-tolerant, distributed systems
• Proficiency in Java or other object-oriented programming languages
• Comfortability with multithreading and concurrent programming challenges
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field

Preferred Qualifications

While not required, preference will be given to candidates with:

• Experience with distributed database systems and data warehousing technologies
• Familiarity with big data processing frameworks like Spark, Hadoop, or Flink
• Knowledge of cloud-native architectures and microservices
• Experience with containerization technologies like Docker and orchestration systems like Kubernetes
• Contributions to open-source projects
• Experience with data visualization tools and BI platforms
