Position Overview

We are actively seeking motivated, detail‑oriented individuals to join our remote, part‑time team as Freight Handling & Customer Service Associates. In this role, you will be the critical link between our warehouse operations and our valued customers, ensuring that freight is safely moved, accurately documented, and expertly loaded onto trailers. This position blends hands‑on freight handling with customer‑facing responsibilities, offering a unique hybrid experience that is both physically engaging and intellectually rewarding.

Key Responsibilities

  • Freight Movement: Operate motorized and manual equipment—including forklifts, pallet jacks, and hand trucks—to transport freight across dock areas and into/out of trailers.
  • Documentation Accuracy: Verify that all freight documentation (type, weight, hazardous material status, etc.) matches the physical cargo using electronic or manual systems.
  • Secure Loading: Apply appropriate securing methods—pallets, straps, rope, and other supplies—to ensure cargo remains stable during transit.
  • Damage Management: Identify, report, and, when possible, repair damaged freight to minimize loss and maintain customer satisfaction.
  • Reporting: Complete required paperwork and digital reports promptly, maintaining a clear audit trail for each shipment.
  • Customer Assistance: Provide courteous, knowledgeable support to customers regarding freight status, documentation, and any special handling requirements.
  • Hostling Duties (When Needed): Perform hostling or yard mule tasks, such as moving trailers within the yard, to keep operations flowing smoothly.
  • Compliance: Adhere to all applicable safety regulations, environmental guidelines, and arenaflex policies to protect yourself, your teammates, and the community.
  • Team Collaboration: Work independently when required, but also seamlessly integrate with on‑site teams, service center personnel, and remote supervisors.
  • Continuous Improvement: Suggest process enhancements, share best practices, and participate in training sessions to elevate overall operational efficiency.

Essential Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent (preferred).
  • Minimum age of 18 years.
  • Prior experience in warehousing, freight handling, or forklift operation (preferred).
  • Experience with hostling or yard mule duties is a plus.
  • Basic arithmetic skills; ability to perform simple calculations with or without a calculator.
  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Physical capability to lift and carry hand freight of varying weights, handle dock plates (~100 lb), and open trailer doors requiring ~75 lb of force, repeatedly throughout a shift.
  • Flexibility to bend, twist, squat, and push/pull freight as needed.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • Previous dock or warehouse experience is advantageous.

Preferred Skills & Competencies

  • Safety Mindset: Proactive approach to identifying hazards and implementing corrective actions.
  • Customer Service Orientation: Ability to listen actively, empathize, and resolve customer inquiries efficiently.
  • Technical Proficiency: Familiarity with electronic logging systems, barcode scanners, and basic computer navigation.
  • Problem‑Solving: Quick decision‑making when faced with unexpected freight issues or documentation discrepancies.
  • Time Management: Capacity to prioritize tasks in a fast‑paced, deadline‑driven environment.
  • Adaptability: Comfort with variable shift schedules and changing operational demands.

Work Environment & Conditions

While this role is classified as remote and part‑time, you will be required to report to designated dock locations on a scheduled basis. The dock environment can expose you to varied weather conditions, exhaust fumes, dust, and noise. Safety gear and protective equipment are provided, and comprehensive training ensures you are prepared for all conditions. Hours may fluctuate based on operational needs, offering flexibility for those seeking work‑life balance.
