Note: The job is a remote job and is open to candidates in USA. Macmillan is a leading publishing company, and they are seeking an Editorial Assistant to support two nonfiction editors. The role involves assisting with manuscript management, communicating project updates, providing feedback on submissions, conducting research, and completing general administrative tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with manuscript management, including formatting manuscripts for copyediting, creating art logs, tracking production deadlines
  • Communicate updates about projects, answer questions, and follow-up with requests from authors, agents, team members from different departments, and other internal and external stakeholders
  • Review and provide thoughtful feedback on submissions
  • Conduct research for comparative titles, creating P&Ls, and preparing materials for title acquisition
  • Draft title information sheets, catalog copy, and jacket copy
  • Complete general administrative tasks, such as setting up meetings, drafting contract requests, and maintaining the flow of materials between editorial and other departments

Skills

  • The ability to work independently, juggle different deadlines across multiple projects, and prioritize effectively
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Superb organizational skills, time management, and attention to detail
  • A strong interest in for nonfiction books and curiosity about a wide range of subjects, from history, pop culture, and social science to self-help, psychology, health, cooking, and lifestyle
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Google Workspace
  • Minimum high school diploma or GED
  • Some work experience in book publishing is a plus
  • Some experience in a corporate/office environment
  • Alternative (non-publishing industry-based) office experience is welcome
