Designer I
HMC Architects is an employee-owned design firm dedicated to making a positive impact in communities through thoughtful design. The Designer I role involves supporting the architectural design team in all project phases, focusing on design development, Revit modeling, and construction documentation while ensuring adherence to quality standards and accessibility codes.
Responsibilities
- Assist in project design documentation using Revit, including 3D modeling and material research
- Prepare and organize working drawings and basic “block-out” drawings (site plans, floor plans, elevations)
- Support design development and construction documents across all project phases
- Help produce marketing and interview presentation materials
- Assist with plan check processes and apply accessibility codes to drawings
- Support construction administration, including submittal and shop drawing reviews and RFIs
- Incorporate red-line markups from supervisors accurately and thoroughly
- Estimate hours for assigned tasks and complete work within agreed budgets
- Participate in design charrettes, professional activities, and other assigned duties
Skills
- Architectural degree from an accredited university
- Minimum 1 year of architectural design experience preferred
- Proficiency in Revit, including advanced editing, drawing setup, and file management
- Understanding of construction documents, drawing organization, and architectural terminology
- Familiarity with CAD/Revit fundamentals such as layers, plotting, dimensions, viewports, and file maintenance
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to manage time, prioritize tasks, and work independently
- Professional, respectful demeanor with clients, consultants, and team members
- Motivation to learn, grow, and take on new responsibilities
