Product Manager - Orchestration

Work from home Full-time role Hiring

An Introduction to Primer Primer is the unified infrastructure for global payments. We give finance and payments teams the visibility and control to reduce complexity, improve performance, and capture more revenue - all from a single platform. Backed by Sofina, Peak XV Partners, ICONIQ, Tencent, Accel, and Balderton, we're building the payments layer the world's best companies rely on. Watch our showcase > Read up on our $100m Series C Learn more about our culture > Which team will you be joining? A Primer payment is worth more than a regular payment. In the Orchestration team we build the engine that powers intelligent, seamless and reliable payments across any provider, method or market. We own the full orchestration layer: routing decisions, fallback logic, and the smart infrastructure that makes every payment perform at its best. The team covers everything from checkout and payment processing through to tokenization, authentication, fallback logic, developer tooling and workflows. As a Product Manager here you will own a sub-area within that: a coherent slice of the product where you own the problems, the prioritisation and the outcomes over multiple quarters. You will work day to day with a dedicated engineering team and design partner, alongside GTM, and report into the Product lead for the area. Primer is remote-first and globally distributed, and always will be. We run on written thinking, low bureaucracy and real ownership. You build it, you own it, end to end. What will you be doing? Owning the outcomes for your sub-area of Orchestration over multiple quarters, not just shipping a backlog Defining the problems worth solving in your scope by synthesising merchant feedback, payment performance data, provider behaviour, competitive moves and platform constraints Planning and delivering initiatives independently, making real-time trade-offs on scope, sequencing and quality to protect both timelines and outcomes Writing specs that anticipate the edge cases that actually matter in orchestration: routing logic, fallback behaviour, authentication flows, and the quirks of individual providers Partnering closely with engineering on feasibility and technical trade-offs, in a domain where the product is deeply technical, and defining the metrics that tell you whether your sub-area is working, such as authorisation rates, conversion and cost Owning launch readiness and driving rapid post-launch iteration based on what the data shows Representing your sub-area to merchants and internal stakeholders, turning technical complexity into clear product decisions What we're looking for Must-haves: A track record of owning a product sub-area or significant feature set end to end, with outcomes that can be traced back to your decisions The ability to define problems independently from messy inputs, rather than waiting for a fully formed brief Sound, autonomous trade-offs on scope, quality and technical debt within your scope Real technical fluency, enough to partner with engineers on routing, processing and integration trade-offs rather than hand over requirements Clear, structured communication that keeps engineering, design and GTM aligned and surfaces risks early Nice-to-haves: Experience in payments or fintech, particularly routing, processing, authentication or PSP integration Comfort with data analysis to define and track outcome metrics You may not like it here Orchestration is deeply technical and performance-obsessed. Small changes to routing or fallback move real money and real conversion. If you want to operate above the technical detail, this will not suit you. No one hands you a roadmap. You are expected to define what is worth solving in your sub-area, with support rather than direction. We are remote-first and async by default. If you need people physically around you to do your best work, this is a real adjustment, not a perk. Feedback here is direct and frequent. You are expected to give it as well as take it. ✅ A typical interview process An initial intro call with a Talent Partner An interview with the Hiring Manager Challenge Stage - Contextualised to the role A final, values-alignment interview What's the culture like at Primer? We're building a culture where people can do their best work and be proud of the impact they have. You'll be working with people who are mission-driven, smart, and reflective, and who are genuinely invested in building exceptional products and delivering success for our merchants. We work remotely, and have done since day one. We believe that building a successful, profitable company goes beyond proximity. We invest in our relationships through great remote working practices and thoughtfully designed face-to-face time, including workations, our annual company retreat, and co-working space access worldwide. The work is challenging. Scaleups are a challenge, and building category-defining products is a challenge. But there's a meaningful difference between a challenge and a struggle. At Primer, the right challenge comes with the right support: strong onboarding, a collaborative environment, and a team that is genuinely invested in your success. It's never something you face alone. Our benefits 🌍 We are fully remote and globally distributed; and have been since day one 💰 Competitive share options 🌴 Uncapped holiday, with 25 days minimum to be taken 🗣️ Co-working space access 📅 Workations & Company Retreat 💻 The best equipment for your role 🏠 £500 towards your home office setup 🔎 Generous learning budget 🏥 Private Medical Insurance 📈 A broad set of additional perks and benefits (depending on location) Don’t meet every single requirement? At Primer, we're dedicated to building a diverse, inclusive, and authentic workplace. If you're excited about this role but your experience doesn't align perfectly with every qualification listed, we encourage you to apply. You may be the right candidate for this or other roles. Primer is committed to the equal treatment of all current and prospective employees and adopts a zero-tolerance approach to discrimination, regardless of age, disability, sex, sexual orientation, pregnancy and maternity, race or ethnicity, religion or belief, gender identity, marriage and civil partnership, or any other background or belief.
