Advanced Mathematics Tutor – Probability Theory (Ivy League Level, Remote)
About the position Novastar Prep is seeking a highly specialized, part-time Advanced Mathematics Tutor (Probability Theory) to support an Ivy League mathematics student in a rigorous, calculus-based probability course. This is a unique opportunity to work 1:1 with a high-achieving college student in a deeply conceptual, proof-based learning environment. The role involves providing expert-level instruction in a second- or third-year, calculus-based probability course designed for math majors. Topics include discrete and continuous random variables, multivariate distributions, expectation, independence, conditioning, conditional distributions and expectations, the strong law of large numbers, the central limit theorem, random walks, and Markov chains. Candidates must be comfortable teaching abstract, proof-based probability at an Ivy League level.
Responsibilities
- Provide expert-level instruction in a second- or third-year, calculus-based probability course designed for math majors.
- Teach abstract, proof-based probability at an Ivy League level.
- Work 1:1 with a high-achieving college student.
- Track student progress over time.
- Build lasting relationships with students.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree or higher in a relevant field.
- 1+ year of recent or current tutoring or teaching experience.
- Clear and effective communicator, able to connect with students of various learning styles.
- Must have a reliable internet connection and be computer literate.
- Willingness to commit to at least one semester.
- Ability to pass a background check.
